Sarah is a certified practising speech pathologist and registered teacher with over 20 years of experience in working with children and adolescents with a range of communication and learning challenges. Sarah has worked in a range of settings including early childhood development centers, community clinics, mainstream and special schools. She has a particular interest in supporting the communication needs of the neuro-diverse population after working for a number of years in an independent school for children with Autism. Sarah is also trained in the multi-sensory structured language and literacy (MSL) approach for teaching reading and writing.
Sarah is committed to providing a high-quality service for children and adolescents who have speech, language and literacy difficulties. Her experience as a mainstream and special school classroom teacher has provided her with an in-depth knowledge of the academic and social demands children face in the school system. Her goal is to use this knowledge to provide functional, evidence-based therapy to allow her clients to achieve their full communication potential.
Sarah provides assessment and intervention for children and adolescents who have difficulty with:

Sarah offers home and school visits as well as in clinic therapy sessions.
A full and comprehensive assessment will involve a combination of formal and informal assessment. Assessment sessions are one hour long and depending on the client's needs, one or two appointments may be necessary. Assessment includes discussion of results, recommendations and a written report emailed to you.
Individual goals will be set jointly with parents/carers and the client (if appropriate) that focus on developing the client's communication skills. Intervention is individualised and tailored to the client's specific interests and needs. Sessions last 60 minutes and may involve direct work with the client, demonstration of techniques and activities that can be completed at home, setting goals and discussing progress.
Speech and language intervention is most effective when communication between speech pathologists, teachers, educators and other professionals occurs. Regular liaison through email, phone and if appropriate face to face meetings with the client's multidisciplinary team is a key part of the service and will ensure that goals are functional and relevant to the client's everyday communication needs.
The multisensory structured language and literacy approach is a direct, explicit, systematic and cumulative approach to teaching students to read and write. It uses a multisensory component where visual, auditory and kinesthetic pathways are stimulated to support memory and learning of written language.
